Celebrate differently
A birthday nobody will forget
A 30th, a 50th or a child’s first desert night – a birthday in the Sahara is a story people keep telling. We prepare the camp, the cake, the decorations and the music, and we can quietly help you plan a surprise if the birthday person mustn’t find out.
Canadians often time a desert birthday to escape the winter: from November to March Merzouga usually enjoys sunny days while it is snowing back home. Fly nonstop from Montreal or via Europe, spend a few days in Marrakech or Fes and then celebrate in the dunes. Quiet or lively, tell us how you’d like to celebrate and we plan the evening around you.
- Cake or traditional Moroccan pastries with candles
- Decoration with lanterns, candles and Berber carpets
- Drums, singing and dancing around the campfire
- Private dinner for couples or a long table for groups

Birthday ideas for couples, families and friends
For couples we prepare a romantic evening with a private dinner and decorated tent. For families we plan easy activities such as a short camel ride, sandboarding and stargazing, and a cake that children will love. For groups of friends we add music, fire and adventure activities such as quad bikes and buggies.
Example evening
How a birthday night in the desert works
- Late afternoon: arrival in Merzouga and camel ride into the dunes
- Sunset: toast on a dune and group photos
- Evening: dinner with a birthday cake and candles
- Night: drums, songs and stargazing around the fire
- Morning: sunrise and breakfast in the camp
Make it a weekend
Add a second day of adventure
Stay two nights and add a 4×4 day trip to the nomads, the Gnawa musicians of Khamlia and the seasonal desert lakes, or a morning of quad bikes on the big dunes. It turns the birthday into a real desert vacation.
