Sahara Desert Honeymoon in Merzouga

Begin married life among the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi, just a short flight from the UK: a private luxury tent, a sunset camel ride, a candlelit dinner on the sand and a night sky you will remember for ever.

Romance in the dunes

Why spend your honeymoon in the Sahara?

Forget the usual beach resort. At our camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes there are no roads, no traffic and almost no light after dark – just sand, silence and stars. It is the ideal place to unwind after the wedding and finally have time for each other.

Getting here from Britain is easier than most couples expect. Direct flights from London, Manchester, Bristol, Birmingham and Edinburgh reach Marrakech in around three and a half hours, and there are also flights to Fes. From either city we arrange a private driver through the Atlas Mountains to Merzouga, and our family takes care of everything else: the transfer, a beautifully dressed tent, a private dinner and little surprises along the way.

A day to remember

A typical honeymoon programme

Most couples arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon. After a mint tea in the village, you ride to the camp on camels as the sun goes down, or take a short 4×4 transfer if you prefer. Your decorated tent is ready when you arrive.

In the evening we serve a private candle-lit dinner – soup, salads, a slow-cooked tagine and fresh fruit – followed by Berber drums around the fire, or simply a quiet night under the stars if you prefer. In the morning, climb the dune behind the camp to watch the sunrise before breakfast.

  • Afternoon: arrival in Merzouga and welcome tea
  • Sunset: camel ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes
  • Evening: private dinner, music and stargazing
  • Morning: sunrise on the dunes and breakfast
  • Optional second day: 4×4 trip to nomads, Khamlia and desert lakes, or a quad ride

Choose your comfort

Luxury tent or deluxe tent with air-conditioning?

Our luxury tents have a real double bed, quality linen and a private bathroom with hot shower and toilet. They are the most popular choice for honeymoon couples from October to May, when the desert nights are cool and the days are pleasant.

From June to September the days in Merzouga can be very hot. For these months we recommend our deluxe tents with air-conditioning, so you can rest in the afternoon and sleep comfortably. Ask us for availability and the current price when you send your dates.

Make it longer

Ideas for a longer honeymoon in Morocco

Many couples combine the desert with a few nights in Marrakech or Fes and a private drive through the Atlas Mountains, the Dades Gorges and the Todra Gorge. We can organise a private driver for the whole trip, so you travel at your own pace and stop wherever you like.

  • 2 nights in the desert to enjoy the camp without rushing
  • A private desert tour from Marrakech or Fes
  • A slow morning with breakfast on the dunes
  • A visit to a Berber family and a cooking class

In July and August daytime temperatures can top 40 °C – far hotter than a British summer. At that time of year we recommend a deluxe tent with air-conditioning and keeping activities to early morning and sunset.

Yes. We can plan a private tour with a driver from Marrakech or Fes, with riads, the Atlas Mountains, gorges and the desert.

Very little. Morocco is on GMT+1 for most of the year, so it is the same time as the UK during British Summer Time and one hour ahead in winter – no jet lag to spoil your honeymoon.
