Sahara Desert Honeymoon in Merzouga

Swap the Irish drizzle for the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi: a private luxury tent, a sunset camel ride, dinner by candlelight on the sand and a starry sky you will never forget – the perfect start to married life.

Romance in the dunes

Why spend your honeymoon in the Sahara?

The desert is quiet, vast and nothing like a beach hotel. At our camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes there are no roads, no traffic and almost no light at night – only sand, silence and stars. It is the perfect place to slow down after the big day and enjoy time together.

Reaching us from Ireland is easier than you might think. Direct flights from Dublin to Marrakech take around four hours, and from Cork, Shannon or Knock a single connection usually does the trick. From Marrakech or Fes we arrange a private driver across the Atlas to Merzouga, and our family looks after every detail: the transfer, a beautifully prepared tent, a private dinner and a few surprises.

A day to remember

A typical honeymoon programme

Most couples arrive in Merzouga in the afternoon. After a mint tea in the village, you ride to the camp on camels as the sun goes down, or take a short 4×4 transfer if you prefer. Your decorated tent is ready when you arrive.

In the evening we serve a private candle-lit dinner – soup, salads, a slow-cooked tagine and fresh fruit – followed by Berber drums around the fire, or simply a quiet night under the stars if you prefer. In the morning, climb the dune behind the camp to watch the sunrise before breakfast.

  • Afternoon: arrival in Merzouga and welcome tea
  • Sunset: camel ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes
  • Evening: private dinner, music and stargazing
  • Morning: sunrise on the dunes and breakfast
  • Optional second day: 4×4 trip to nomads, Khamlia and desert lakes, or a quad ride

Choose your comfort

Luxury tent or deluxe tent with air-conditioning?

Our luxury tents have a real double bed, quality linen and a private bathroom with hot shower and toilet. They are the most popular choice for honeymoon couples from October to May, when the desert nights are cool and the days are pleasant.

From June to September the days in Merzouga can be very hot. For these months we recommend our deluxe tents with air-conditioning, so you can rest in the afternoon and sleep comfortably. Ask us for availability and the current price when you send your dates.

Make it longer

Ideas for a longer honeymoon in Morocco

Many couples combine the desert with a few nights in Marrakech or Fes and a private drive through the Atlas Mountains, the Dades Gorges and the Todra Gorge. We can organise a private driver for the whole trip, so you travel at your own pace and stop wherever you like.

  • 2 nights in the desert to enjoy the camp without rushing
  • A private desert tour from Marrakech or Fes
  • A slow morning with breakfast on the dunes
  • A visit to a Berber family and a cooking class
