Travelling to Merzouga from Australia
Travelling from Australia? Here are the essentials for your trip to Merzouga.
Flights from Australia
There are no direct flights, but one stop via Dubai (Emirates), Doha (Qatar Airways) or Istanbul (Turkish Airlines) gets you to Casablanca or Marrakech. Allow about 22–28 hours from Sydney or Melbourne, or 19–23 from Perth.
Entry rules
No visa needed for stays of up to 90 days. A passport with 6 months’ validity is recommended.
Money
Prices in A$ are a guide; the 10% deposit is charged in euros by PayPal and the rest is paid in Merzouga. A$1 ≈ 6.8 MAD.
Seasons
Seasons are reversed: your autumn (April–May) and spring (September–October) match the best desert weather. July, your winter, is the hottest time in the Sahara.
Good to know
Morocco is 9–10 hours behind Sydney and about 7 hours behind Perth. Bring a plug adapter: Australian Type I plugs don’t fit Moroccan Type C/E sockets.
Reading reviews
Look for reviews from other Australian travellers about transfers, food and the tents.
