Travelling to Merzouga from the US

Travelling from the US? Here are the essentials for your trip to Merzouga.

Flights from the US

Royal Air Maroc flies nonstop to Casablanca from New York JFK, Washington Dulles, Miami and Los Angeles, with short connections to Marrakech or Fes. One-stop routes via Paris, Madrid, Lisbon or London also work well. Expect about 11–16 hours door to door from the East Coast and 16–22 from the West Coast.

Entry rules

No visa needed for stays of up to 90 days, and overstays are taken seriously. Your passport needs 6 months’ validity and a blank page for the entry stamp.

Money

Prices in $ are a guide; the 15% deposit is charged in euros by PayPal and the rest is paid in Merzouga. $1 ≈ 9.75 MAD.

Seasons

Fall and spring are ideal. Spring break, Thanksgiving week and Christmas are our busiest weeks for American guests, so book early.

Good to know

Morocco is 5–6 hours ahead of the East Coast and 8–9 hours ahead of the West Coast. Bring a plug adapter (Type C/E, 220V); most phone and laptop chargers are dual-voltage.

Getting the shot

Sunrise and sunset light is best. Bring a lens cloth and a zip-top bag to keep sand out of your phone.
