The experience
Simple, cosy and authentic
Our standard camp is the classic Merzouga experience, built around a traditional courtyard of Berber tents in the dunes of Erg Chebbi. Every tent is private and furnished with real beds, clean bedding, warm blankets and colourful Berber carpets.
The bathrooms are shared and kept clean throughout the day. Like our luxury guests, you ride to camp on a camel at sunset (or by 4×4), enjoy mint tea, a home-cooked dinner of salads, tagine and fruit, and an evening of drums and songs around the fire.
It is the perfect choice for backpackers, families and travellers on a budget who still want comfort, good food and a warm Berber welcome.

- Meeting point: our office or hotel in Merzouga, where you can park your car – the exact location is sent with your booking confirmation
- Best arrival time: 3–5 pm for the sunset camel ride
- Check-in from 4 pm – around 6 pm in the hot summer months

- Nights are cold from November to March – warm blankets provided

Meet us in Merzouga village. From there you reach the camp by camel (about 1.5 hours, at sunset) or by 4×4 (about 20 minutes). We send exact directions after booking.
We recommend arriving in Merzouga between 3 and 5 pm to ride to the camp for sunset. Online booking closes 6 hours before arrival – for last-minute stays, message us on WhatsApp.

The camp has lighting, and mobile coverage in the dunes is usually good. Ask us if you need to charge equipment – we are happy to help.

Travelling to Merzouga from the US
Coming from the US? Here’s how to reach the dunes and what to know before your night in the Sahara.
Getting to camp
Fly nonstop to Casablanca from JFK, Dulles, Miami or LA with Royal Air Maroc, then connect to Marrakech or Fes. Merzouga is 7–8 hours by road from Fes and 9–10 from Marrakech; we can arrange your transfer.
US passports
No visa needed for stays of up to 90 days, and overstays are taken seriously. Your passport needs 6 months’ validity and a blank page for the entry stamp.
Paying for your stay
Prices in $ are a guide; the 15% deposit is charged in euros by PayPal and the rest is paid in Merzouga. $1 ≈ 9.75 MAD.
When American guests come
Fall and spring are ideal. Spring break, Thanksgiving week and Christmas are our busiest weeks for American guests, so book early.
What to pack
Desert nights get chilly from December to February, so pack a fleece. Bring a plug adapter (Type C/E, 220V); most phone and laptop chargers are dual-voltage.
Stretching your dollars
A standard tent includes dinner, breakfast and the camel ride, so a desert night costs less than a hotel dinner back home.
